The week that's been....

So.... what can I say about the pain of Gallstone removal... IT SUCKS!

It has made me rethink pregnancy and labour cause seriously... contractions would have to be worse and I couldn't handle what I was experiencing...

Back to the beginning hey?

Went in on Tuesday morning at 11. Checked in and everything... went to my nice little private room (I am loving private after all of this!!!) Had a Nurse do my preop... asked me heaps of questions.. weighed me.... checked my obs and all of that... then gave me some special soap, a blue gown and some paper panties and told me to have a shower.... (Paper panties???)

Spoke with that Anaesthetic Lady (She was nice and gave me good drugs later!!) and my Surgeon came to congratulate me on finally getting here!! I got to put a fashionalble blue wig on my head and they wheeled me through...

The drip went in without any problems... I was worried about that after last time! The first drugs stung a fair bit but didn't have as much of an effect as when I had my teeth done.. I had stuff attached to me here there and everywhere... and then was taken into the freezing theatre room!!! (I remember asking was it always this cold in here!) Some deep breaths and I was awake, in pain, nausious and vomiting... Woohoo.. What a ride! I was in recovery for quite a while and was being difficult apparently... not wanting to breath without oxygen and then vomiting to boot... I made them work too hard!! I got taken back to the ward and had four worried faces looking at me! I'm pretty vaige about the rest of it except when Stu took Mum and the boys home and came back... The Anaesthetic Lady (can't spell the other word) came in to see how I was doing and let them give me 100ml of Panadiene Forte straight through my IV... Talk about off with the fairies! It lasted til about 3.30am... I woke up... so watched some Charmed.. then got all painy.... It was sooo intense... They think that my drain (Yes.. I had a drain) was hitting on a nerve or something... I was not screaming but was moaning quite loudly... It felt like a warm knife was stabbing me from the inside out... they told me to keep breathing slowly.. deep breaths... I wanted to tell them to bugger off! They made me tell them my name and dob before they jabbed me in the belly with Morphine.... Don't know what all the hype is over that drug.. took too long to work for my liking - and I only ended up with 2 hours sleep from it.

Wednesday morning I got woken up... pulled out of bed and made to have a shower... but not before having antibiotics and stuff shoved through my IV (someone forgot to remove the air bubble....) Stu was there and I had tears from the pain... I managed to eat 2 spoonfulls of porridge and a bite of toast and that was it! I was supposed to be going home after lunch... but.... nope... i hadn't had enough fluid drain out of my wound.. so you're with us for another night! I was told to get up and go for walks and stuff to help things move.. which were okay once i was up.... it was the getting up that was the problem. Oh... and the anti clot stuff that they kept injecting me with... in the stomach and the legs! It's not fun!

I still hadn't let enough crap out of me on Thursday so they made me stay again... I was allowed to go yesterday though (Friday - Anzac Day) My surgeon drove up from Hamilton to see me to say that I was right to go... How screwed would the traffic have been yesterday!!

Taking the drain out was a pleasant experience... by a STUDENT NURSE!!! She did okay though... the other nurse was just telling her to pull it out but she was trying to be all gentle which was making it worse!

Had to sit on the bed for an hour afterward to avoid internal bleeding and now I am home... and it's over.....

He managed to remove 33 stones from my gallbladder... 3 of which were the size (and look like) Maltesers... Looks like they've been in there for a while!

I am apparently able to eat normally again now but have been warned off toooo fatty foods.. otherwise I have been advised (and already had the pleasure) of my guts turning to gravy and needing a toilet NOW! (All I had was a little milk on my porridge!!)

Speaking of food.. I need to go and get some now to take my antibiotics and pain killers... It's going to be a fun week ahead!

Going to the airport with Stu tomorrow to see his parents off for their 5 week trip overseas...

I have to stop myself from going and getting and putting on washing.. cause I have NO clothes!

There are some pics in my photo album...
